Meadow Brook Concert & Cuisine

More than 350 ($85 - $125 tickets) convened at Oakland University for the annual summer fundraiser for MBT - “Michigan’s answer to Broadway.” Before the food stations opened, folks lollygagged outside sipping beer and wine from the Rochester Tap Room and bid $9,000 for the silent auction items Colleen Brnabic and Maryann Foxlee had set up in the hallway. Generous local restaurants (see photo gallery) served savory fare for dining on the stroll before the theatre doors opened. Artistic director Travis Walter conducted a live auction with his trademark good humor. He got $500 from two bidders for two Dickens packages that included a walk-on role in MBT’s “A Christmas Carol”  and $900 for a Fender Squire Guitar signed by The Grass Roots Band.

Downtown Publications is now a member of Kachingle, which its founder, Cynthia Typaldos, calls "crowdfunding."

Crowdfunding is a means for visitors to this website to help support the news efforts of Downtown Publications, on this website and in print.

Some larger news organizations have moved to what is now called the "paywall" model of websites. Put simply, you cannot enter the site or are limited in what you can access unless you pay a monthly or annual subscription fee.

We felt the Kachingle model fit our situation best. Those who "like" or appreciate our efforts can help us underwrite this site by making small contributions to Downtown Publications through Kachingle.

Kachingle asks that you donate $5 each month and your contribution is divided among sites that you support and appreciate as you surf the web.

This experiment in micro-donations will hopefully generate small amounts of contributions each month which will allow us to expand what we now are doing in print and on this website.

Joining Kachingle to donate is simple. Once registered, supporting a site is only a matter of clicking on the Kachingle medallion.

If you find our news efforts valuable, then we would appreciate your expression of support.
