Credit card charged following phony Apple text

A Birmingham resident on Monday, September 9, fell victim to a credit card scam after giving her financial information to an unknown person posing as a representative from Apple.

Birmingham police said the victim contacted the department about noon to report that she received a text from Apple about verifying her Apple ID. The woman called the phone number listed in the text and provided them with her credit card information.

The resident later discovered a fraudulent transaction on her credit card. She contacted Apple and learned the text she received was a scam.

Birmingham police are investigating.
