Summer music theater celebrates 45 years
The Rochester Community Schools Summer Music Theater program is celebrating its 45th season this year with a 2018 production of Disney's "Newsies." The program features students in grades 4-12, who will comprise the cast and crew of Newsies, which was inspired by the real-life newsboy's strike of 1899 in New York City. The story was released as a Disney film in 1992 and became a Broadway musical in 2012. The Summer Music Theater will run nightly plays at 7 p.m. from Wednesday

Royal Oak man drowns in Rochester Hills
A 27-year-old Royal Oak man died on Thursday, July 5, during an accidental drowning at Thelma Spencer Park in Rochester Hills, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's deputies and firefighters with the Rochester Hills Fire Department responded about 7:22 p.m. to the report of a possible drowning at the park, 3701 John R, after lifeguards pulled the man from the water. Request for nine-story building downtown denied
A request before Birmingham's Planning Board on Wednesday, June 27, to have the site of the former Mountain King restaurant and an adjacent former bank, at 469-479 S. New owner for Cole Street property, city approvals
A ramshackle Rail District property which has come before Birmingham boards over the years with a variety of owners has new ownership once again, and on Wednesday, June 27, received unanimous final site plan and design review approvals from the Birmingham Planning Board, with the anticipation that the it will finally be improved.
The owners were represented at the meeting by one owner, Tom Lasky of Bloomfield Hills, and Jason Krieger of Krieger Architects.

Three men break into pharmacy, steal drugs
In the early morning hours of Monday, July 2, three men broke into the Medical Park Pharmacy in Bloomfield Township and stole prescription drugs.
Police were alerted by an alarm at Medical Park Pharmacy, 799 Denison Court, at 5:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they discovered the pharmacy doors were damaged and forced open.
Video surveillance at the pharmacy showed three male subjects entering the pharmacy and stealing several prescription drugs.

Clothing missing from sporting goods store
Bloomfield Township police are looking for information on a suspect who stole clothing from the Bloomfield Dick's Sporting Goods store on Friday, June 15.
Officers were called to the Dick's Sporting Goods store located at 2105 Telegraph Road around 3:40 p.m., after a store associate spotted numerous clothing tags on the floor, and notified the store manager.

Cooling fans stolen from Bloomfield Costco
A man stole two Dyson Pure Cool fans from the Bloomfield Township Costco on Monday, June 25, and police later arrested a suspect.
Around 3:25 June 25, Bloomfield Township police responded to Costco, located at 2343 Telegraph Road, where the store manager reported a man had selected two Dyson Pure Cool fans valued at $600, and then left the store without paying for them.
