Rochester hosts Kris Kringle Market this weekend

December 1, 2017

The annual Downtown Rochester Kris Kringle Market will be held on Friday, December 1, and Saturday, December 2, on W. Fourth Street, between Walnut and Main streets.

The market, presented by Lincoln of Troy, is inspired by the 700-year-old tradition of the European Christmas markets. Visitors may enjoy food, shopping, entertainment and the ambience of an open air holiday market. Offerings include hand-crafted gifts, fresh greens, baked goods, specialty foods, glass blowing and more.

The market runs from 4 to 10 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

"The Kris Kringle Market is the main stay of holiday events in downtown Rochester," said Alan Smith, chairman of the Rochester Principal Shopping District (PSD). "The gifts, shopping, food and The Big, Bright Light Show create a charming atmosphere that really suits Rochester with its heritage and tradition."

About two dozen vendors will be participating in the market, with a variety of other activities offered throughout each day.

Visits with Santa will run until 9 p.m. each day, while a children's arts and crafts area will be open until 10 p.m. Meadow Brook Carolers will ring in the holiday season on Friday from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by singer Jennifer Kincer and friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Morganne Bentley and Jannah Garback, from 9 to 10 p.m.

Events on Saturday include the Alleluia Ringers First Congressional Church, United Church of Christ, from noon to 1 p.m; followed by Jennifer Kincer and Friends from 2 to 3 p.m; Autumn, from 4 to 4:45 p.m; and Morganne Bentley and Jannah Garback from 9 to 10 p.m.

Food and beverages will be available in the event's warming tent. Visitors may purchase commemorative mugs filled with Gluhwein or enjoy handcrafted beer from the Rochester Mills Beer Co.
