Rochester Hills man kills wife, turns himself in

A Rochester Hills man has been charged with homicide in connection with the March 12 shooting death of his wife in the 3400 block of Emmons Avenue where 41-year-old Cory Ehlers was found by a family member.

Oakland County Sheriff's Office investigators responding about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, said the victim was found on the couch, obviously deceased. Deputies responded after Ehlers' brother in-law found her on a bloody couch in the home. The sheriff's office said he told dispatchers his sister in-law and her husband were going through a bad divorce.

As detectives investigated the crime scene, the suspect, Shaun Michael Wheeler, 39, went to the Rochester Hills substation and told the front desk deputy that he had just killed his wife. Wheeler was taken into custody without incident and interviewed by detectives.

Wheeler was charged on Wednesday, March 14, with one count of first degree premeditated murder, punishable by life in prison; and one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, punishable by two years in prison. He was held at the Oakland County Jail without bond. A preliminary exam is scheduled for March 29 in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills before Judge Lisa Asadoorian.

Ehlers and Wheeler had married in 2009 and had two elementary school-aged children together. Ehlers also had an adult son.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up by a friend of the family to help the children at gofundme.com/help-these-rochester-siblings.
