Lincoln Hills Golf Course opening Sunday

In a sure sign that spring is here, Birmingham's Lincoln Hills Golf Course, one of two municipal courses the city owns, is opening Sunday, April 1, weather permitting, to duffers of all ages.

The city of Birmingham owns and operates two municipal nine-hole golf courses. Lincoln Hills is located at 2666 W. 14 Mile Road at Cranbrook, and Springdale is located at 316 Strathmore Road.

The city expects to open Springdale GolfCourse on May 1, where golfers will be able to enjoy newly repaired bridges throughout the course.

Discounted spring rates are in effect through Sunday, April 15, at Lincoln Hills. Throughout April, Lincoln Hills is open to everyone – no membership required. The rest of the season, golfers must have a membership to golf at either Lincoln Hills or Springdale, with first resident memberships at $15 per resident, and $10 for an annual renewal.

Non-residents who are interested in a membership are invited to purchase a non-resident pass. An individual pass is $150; a non-resident dual pass is $200; and a non-resident family pass is $250. Business memberships, available for only $100, are for those who work in Birmingham.

Golfers may purchase or renew their membership pass at Lincoln Hills, or Sprindale after May 1.

“Again this year golfers may call ahead to reserve an adaptive golf cart,” said Lauren Wood, director of public services. “The cart makes golf accessible to those who need assistance to play and we’re proud to offer them at both Lincoln Hills and Springdale Golf Course.”

Adaptive golf carts are easy to handle with ergonomic controls. They can drive over greens and tees with no impact to turf, allow users to drive over rough terrain with confidence, and offers users the ability to easily enter/exit using a 360 degree swivel seat. When reserving a tee time, golfers are instructed to inform the pro shop staff that they would like to reserve it, and arrive 15 minutes early to go through a simple orientation for the operation of the cart, Wood advised.

Reservations may be made online or by calling Lincoln Hills at (248) 530-1670 or Springdale at (248) 530-1660. Tee time reservations and added information is available at GolfBirmingham.org.
