Woman caught stealing flat iron, other items

A woman who shoplifted at the Bloomfield Township TJ Maxx on November 20, 2017, was subsequently arrested on the outstanding warrant and arraigned at 48th District Court on Wednesday, March 28.

According to Bloomfield Township police, on November 20, a black female suspect entered the TJ Maxx store at 2139 Telegraph Road, with a black little girl, about five years old. The suspect filled a shopping cart with merchandise, which the store valued at approximately $265. The woman entered a checkout line, got a reusable TJ Maxx shopping bag from a nearby shelf, and filled it with most of her merchandise. She hid a pink flat iron, valued at $25, in her large brown purse. She then walked past all points of purchase without paying for anything, and tried to leave the store.

A loss prevention officer confronted her, and tried to detain her. She left the bag full of merchandise in the store, and pushed her way past him, leaving the store with her purse.

The suspect was gone by the time police arrived.

During the subsequent investigation, the suspect was identified as Ebony Monea-Evette Haden, 26, of Pontiac. Haden was already on probation in Oakland County for retail fraud when this incident occurred, and Bloomfield Township police presented this incident to the Oakland County's Prosecutor's Office, who issued a two-count complaint and order for warrant, with count one for retail fraud second, and count two for assault and battery.

On March 28, Haden appeared in Oakland County Circuit Court for a probation violation hearing, at which point she was arrested on the Bloomfield Township warrant, and arraigned before Magistrate Howard Linden, who assigned her a $10,000 bond, or 10 percent cash/surety bond.

Haden's next court date is Monday, April 2, at 48th District Court before Judge Kimberly Small.
