Man arrested after pointing gun at wife

April 20, 2018

A 71-year-old Rochester Hills man, who lives on Francis Avenue, was arrested on Monday, April 16, in connection with felonious assault after allegedly pointing a rifle at his wife while she was cooking his meal.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded about 6:26 p.m. to the report of a domestic assault occurring in the driveway of the residence. Dispatchers were also told that the man had a rifle and had pointed it at the woman, who then fled to a neighbor's home and called 911.

Deputies arrived to find the man walking back to his residence, at which point he was stopped and taken into custody.

The wife, 66, told deputies she was cooking eggs for her husband when he came into the kitchen and pointed a rifle at her, then cycled the lever action. The woman then tried to run from the residence, at which point the man allegedly dropped the gun and tried to stop her from leaving. The two struggled in the driveway of the home and the wife screamed for help, alerting neighbors and allowing her to escape.

The man told deputies he was having trouble breathing after being taken into custody and was subsequently transported to Ascension-Crittenton Hospital by the Rochester Hills Fire Department. The man was evaluated and cleared for release, after which time he was lodged at the Oakland County Jail in connection with felonious assault and domestic violence.

Deputies confiscated two rifles and a BB gun from the residence.
