Nine voting precincts in Rochester Hills will be temporarily relocated for the 2018 primary election on August 7.
Rochester Hills Deputy City Clerk Leanne Scott on Monday, May 7, told Rochester Hills City Council that the city was notified by the Rochester Hills Community School District that construction planned during the summer would interfere with voting precincts at several of the district schools. As such, she said the district requested the city find new locations for some precincts.
"Twenty-one of our 32 voting precincts are housed in Rochester Community School buildings," Scott said. "Nine of those are being renovated this summer."
Under federal election law, precincts can only be located in city-owned buildings or those owned by non-profit organizations. Precincts also must provide parking and access that meets federal requirements.
Scott said the clerk's office tried to keep precincts as close to their permanent locations as possible or group them together for convenience.
City council unanimously approved the temporary move of the precincts. The clerk's office will notify voters via mail, as well as provide information on the city's website and at permanent and temporary voting locations.
Temporary locations are as follows:
Precincts 18, 25 and 29 are moved from Adams High School to Rochester High School, 180 S. Livernois.
Precincts 16 and 20 are moved from Brooklands Elementary School to the DPS Garage, 511 E. Auburn Road.
Precinct 28 will be moved from Hampton Elementary School to Holy Family School, 2633 John R.
Precincts 21and 32 will be moved from Hart Middle School to Stoney Creek High School, 6755 Sheldon Road; and Precinct 19 will move from Long Meadow Elementary School to Stoney Creek High School.
