Suspicious individual leads to concern

Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills Schools sent emails to parents on Thursday, June 7, to inform them that a suspicious individual had been seen in a parked car near a Birmingham School District bus stop earlier the previous day.

“Unfortunately, along with warmer weather, we have had a report of a Stranger Danger in our local area,” stated the email from Bloomfield Hills Schools.

Both West Maple Elementary School Principal Laura Mahler and Berkshire Middle School Principal Jason Clinkscale informed parents that, “Bloomfield Township police reported to us that a suspicious individual was in the area of Meadow Lake and Whysall streets (near Maple and Inkster) on Wednesday (June 6).”

A neighbor reported an individual sitting in a late 1980's red pick up.

Township police located the vehicle and the driver and discovered he was known to police due to a suspicious incident in 2016 in Bloomfield Hills.

Police are treating the sighting as a suspicious circumstance.

According to police and the school emails, the individual is a white male in his sixties. Police ask that if anyone sees the man or his vehicle, to call local law enforcement.
