June 15, 2018

A 21-year-old Troy man has been charged in connection with the death of a passenger in his vehicle on Sunday, June 10, who was killed during a crash on South Boulevard, near Fredmoore Drive, in Rochester Hills.

Alexander Munch was charged on Wednesday, June 13, with one count of operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year-felony, and one count of operating while intoxicated causing an injury, a five-year felony.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Munch was intoxicated when he was driving east on South Boulevard about 12:19 a.m. and lost control of his 1988 Dodge Daytona, which went through a ditch on the westbound side of the road and struck a utility pole.

Talon Dawson, 21, of Troy, was in the front passenger side of the vehicle when the crash occurred. He was killed in the crash.

William Cassell, 55, of Rochester Hills, was in the back seat of the vehicle. Both he and Munch were in critical condition immediately following the accident. The sheriff's office said all three men are co-workers at a local restaurant. Cassell was still hospitalized with serious injuries as of Wednesday, June 13, the sheriff's office said.

A search warrant was obtained for a blood sample from Munch following the crash. Munch was arraigned on Wednesday, June 13, before Oakland County 52-3 District Court Judge Lisa Asadoorian. Munch was given a $50,000 cash bond with conditions of no alcohol use with daily testing, no driving and house arrest with a GPS tether.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 28.

The crash remains under investigation.
