Royal Oak man drowns in Rochester Hills

A 27-year-old Royal Oak man died on Thursday, July 5, during an accidental drowning at Thelma Spencer Park in Rochester Hills, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's deputies and firefighters with the Rochester Hills Fire Department responded about 7:22 p.m. to the report of a possible drowning at the park, 3701 John R, after lifeguards pulled the man from the water.

The sheriff's office said the man was visiting the park with some friends. While there, they all went swimming and the friends noticed when they came out of the water that he had not come out with them. They notified the lifeguards who found the man in about 10 feet of water in the swimming area.

Lifeguards conducted CPR on the man, who was then transported by the fire department to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he died.

The sheriff's office's marine unit responded to the incident and is completing the investigation.
