NoHaz collection scheduled for Saturday

September 7, 2018

The North Oakland Household Hazardous Waste Program, better known as NoHaz, will hold a collection date on Saturday, September 8, at the Oakland County Service Center Campus, on Telegraph Road, in Pontiac.

The NoHaz Consortium is a group of Oakland County communities, including Rochester and Rochester Hills, that work to provide residents with a safe, reliable and environmentally responsible way to dispose of hazardous household wastes.

The most recent collection will be held on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, at the county Circuit Court building parking lot.

Most communities require residents to pay $10 or $15 at the event, while others will need to present a community-issue paid or free voucher. Residents of Rochester aren't required to pay a fee and no voucher is needed. Rochester Hills residents are charged $10.

Saturday's event is second to last collection in the county, with the final collection scheduled for October 13 at the Oakland County Community College Highland Lakes campus in Waterford.

Acceptable materials include residential wastes, such as paints, stains, driveway sealer, tar, pesticides, pool chemicals, computers, televisions, aerosols, batteries, cleaners, motor oil, gas, antifreeze and some medical waste, such as syringes, medications and other non-controlled substances.

Unacceptable items include ammunition, firearms, appliances, concrete or asphalt, controlled substances, freon, tires and radioactive waste.
