Taco Bell employees find counterfeit bills

September 7, 2018

Phony $20 bills were passed to employees on two separate occasions at two Rochester Hills Taco Bell restaurants, according to reports filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

A store manager at Taco Bell, 2290 Crooks, contacted sheriff's deputies on Thursday, August 16, to report an unknown white female had paid for a meal in the drive thru with a counterfeit $20 bill. The bill wasn't identified as a fake until after the transaction was completed and the customer had left.

A second counterfeit bill was discovered about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 27, by a manager at another Taco Bell, 2855 S. Rochester Road. It was unknown who and when the bill was received.

Both bills were collected and kept as evidence at the sheriff's Rochester Hills substation.

Counterfeiting is a federal offense and investigations fall under the jurisdiction of the United States Secret Service.
