Rochester transfers SMART credits to OPC

Rochester City Council on Monday, October 29, approved transferring about $12,000 in municipal credits to the Older Persons' Commission (OPC) transportation program from SMART for 2019.

The city has historically transferred credits it receives under SMART's municipal credit contract to the OPC for transportation services. The 2019 credits total $12,502.

Municipal credit funds made available to SMART through legislative appropriation are based on the state's approved budget.

Council unanimously approved the credit transfer.

The OPC offers transportation and other services, including home delivered meals, on-site meals, adult day care services, low income services, senior advocacy services, health and wellness programs, library services, volunteer and employment opportunities and other programs.

Minibus services operate in Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township, including Oakland University and the Troy Beaumont Medical Complex. The OPC transportation service is a door-to-door, shared ride service. Minibuses are wheelchair lift equipped, with reservations required 48 hours in advance. Transportation is for persons 60 and older and those who are under 60 who are disabled.
