An elderly Bloomfield resident reported to Bloomfield Township police that she had been swindled out of a total of $13,500 by someone who had called and told her she had won $6 million from Publishers Clearing House.
On Tuesday, December 11, Bloomfield Township police officers responded to a report of a fraud incident in the 4300 block of Antique Lane. The elderly resident reported she had been swindled out of thousands of dollars after she was contacted by telephone and congratulated for winning the Publishers Clearing House grand prize of $6 million. She was instructed that in order to collect her winnings, she had to send cashier's checks to an address in Georgia.
After she had sent three separate checks totaling $13,500, her son was alerted and advised her to contact police.
The following day, a limousine arrived at her house to take her to an unknown location, but family members instructed them to leave immediately.
Bloomfield Township police have the case under investigation.
