BBAC to host free artist talk

February 15, 2019

On Thursday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m., the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC) will host the first of its 2019 free Artist Talks, presented in partnership with Essay'd, featuring artist Scott Hocking.

Hocking, who was named a 2011 Visual Arts Fellow by Kresge Arts in Detroit, was born in Redford Township in 1975, and has lived and worked in Detroit since 1996. He creates site-specific sculptural and photographic installation pieces, often using found materials he recycles into his art work.

Hocking, referred to “If James Brown was the hardest working man in show business, Scott Hocking is arguably the hardest working artist in Detroit,” has had his artwork exhibited nationally at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook Art Museum, University of Michigan, the Smart Museum of Art, and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Internationally, his work has been shown at the Kunst-Werke Institute, the Van Abbemuseum and the Kunsthalle Wien.

Hocking's talk is free and open to the public.
