Unlocked vehicles, house target of thieves

At least five unlocked vehicles and a home were targeted by burglars on Sunday, June 2, and Monday, June 3, in Birmingham, police said.


Birmingham police received the first complaint about noon on Sunday, June 2,  from a resident in the 700 block of Abbey Road, who said a pair of sunglasses had been removed from their vehicle during the previous night or earlier that morning. The vehicle was unlocked at the time.


A second complaint was made about 5 p.m. by a resident in the 800 block of Putney Drive who told police their vehicle was rummaged through during the night. The vehicle was unlocked, but no items were stolen.


A third complaint was made about 10 p.m. on Sunday by a resident in the 800 block of Shepardbush who told police an Apple iPod Nano was stolen from the vehicle sometime overnight. The vehicle was unlocked.


Residents in the 500 block of Henley Drive told police about 10 p.m. on Sunday that they went for a walk that morning and returned to find a purse missing from their home and an iPad missing from their vehicle. The house and vehicle were unlocked.


Police took a sixth report about noon on Monday, June 3, from a resident in the 900 block of Tottenham who said their vehicle was rummaged through sometime overnight. The vehicle keys and a wallet were stolen from the unlocked vehicle.


Birmingham police urge residents to lock their vehicles and homes.
