Head to Farmers Market for Chef Clash

A few of Birmingham's top chefs will face off against each other on Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Birmingham Farmers Market to see who can earn the title 2019 Birmingham Farmers Market Master Chef Champion.

The annual Chef Clash is a popular attraction at the farmers market. This year, Chef Devon Follbaum from Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar will take on a chef from Adachi, along with others. Each chef will need to complete their dishes using mystery ingredients from the farmers market's vendors. Local celebrities and community leaders will score each dish announce the champion.

The public is invited to watch this display of friendly competition, as well as taste samples from each chef's restaurant.

Chef Clash judges include Birmingham Mayor Patty Bordman, Sue Selasky, food writer at the Detroit Free Press, and Brittne Drake, manager of Primi Piatti Market, which is a Chef Clash sponsor.

Chefs will be challenged with two dishes, one savory and one sweet. They will be judged on interaction with patrons, taste and overall presentation.

Other upcoming special events at the market include the Corn Festival on August 11, featuring all things corn, with special crafts, games and old-fashioned corn shelling; the Harvest Festival on September 15, celebrating the bounty of the Michigan harvest with a petting farm; and the End of Season Celebration on October 27, where visitors are invited come in costume and trick-or-treat among the vendors, plus enjoy pumpkin carving demonstrations..

The Birmingham Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. through October 27 and features exclusively Michigan-grown produce subject to Michigan growing patterns. The market offers a hometown experience that’s fun for all ages, with fresh prepared foods, live music, a children’s craft area and more. Throughout the season more than 70 booths feature a diverse array of locally and regionally grown produce, vegetables, fruits, flowers, garden plants, eggs, honey, jams, fresh meat, poultry, soaps, dog treats, breads, baked goods and hand-crafted items.
