Thieves target unlocked vehicles in township

Bloomfield Township police are advising residents to lock their vehicles overnight following a spate of break-ins over the weekend of Friday, June 14, through Sunday, June 16.

Police responded about 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, to the complaint of a theft in the 2000 block of Hunters Way in the first of a series of thefts that morning. Police said several residents reported items taken from their vehicles sometime between 10 p.m. on Friday and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Police said all of the vehicles targeted were left unlocked and parked in the driveway. Items taken ranged from power tools and car parts to sunglasses and spare change.

"The Bloomfield Township Police Department strongly encourages residents to remove anything of value from their vehicles and to lock their vehicles during the overnight hours," the department said in a news release.

Police ask anyone with information about the incidents to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
