Thieves target several unlocked vehicles

The Bloomfield Township Police Department is advising residents to keep valuables left in their vehicles out of sight from criminals and to keep their car doors locked, following a recent spate of thefts.

Police were dispatched about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, October 28, to the 3000 block of Halla Lane for a theft complaint. The victim told the officer both of his vehicles were parked in the driveway at night but had been entered and ransacked. The only item reported stolen was a garage door opener. Both vehicles had been left unlocked.

Police said officers received subsequent calls for additional thefts from unlocked vehicles in the area, including vehicles in the 1000 block of Hill Line Trail; 3000 block of Roland Drive; and the 3000 block of Tuckahoe Road.

"It was determined that eight vehicles were targeted and all of them were left unlocked," said Bloomfield Township Police Lt. Paul Schwab.

Investigators are in the process of reviewing video from home surveillance cameras.

"The Bloomfield Township police would like to remind the public to lock their car doors and not to leave items of value in plain sight," Schwab said. "If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are encouraged to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755."
