Township police seek DICK's shoplifter

December 6, 2019

Bloomfield Township police are investigating the theft of clothing from a local sporting goods store on Thursday, November 19, in the 2100 block of Telegraph Road.

Officers responding about 2 p.m. to a retail fraud complaint at DICK's Sporting Goods, 2105 Telegraph Road, arrived to speak to a store manager who told them a woman left the store with a large amount of merchandise hidden in her purse.

The manager told police the woman approached the checkout counter with several clothing items but told the cashier that she accidentally left her wallet in her vehicle. Upon exiting the store, the woman activated the anti-theft sensors located at the exit. The woman returned to the store a short time later and the purse appeared to be empty.

Police said the woman showed employees an anti-theft device that she claimed set off the alarm. It was later determined the sensor was from a different DICK's location.

The woman was described as being a black female, about 35 to 45 years old, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall, with a heavyset build and long dreadlocks. She left the location in a silver, four-door Kia sedan driven by a black male.

The case is under investigation.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
