Thieves target township Page Honda dealership

Thieves looking to cash in on precious metals used in automobile exhaust systems on Monday, December 9, struck a Bloomfield Township auto dealership in the 1800 block of Telegraph. Bloomfield Township police responded about 9 a.m. to a theft complaint at Page Honda, 1819 Telegraph Road, where a sales associate told officers that eight catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles stored in the dealership's rear lot. The thefts occurred sometime between the previous Friday and that morning. Catalytic converters are an automobile exhaust component designed to burn off pollutants produced during the internal combustion process. The devices contain small amounts of copper and platinum that thieves trade in to scrap yards for money. Bloomfield Township police are investigating.
