Gag gift could have been land mine

A Bloomfield Township homeowner called police around 4:15 Saturday, February 15, to report they had purchased a novelty land mine as a gag gift, but the online store had emailed and informed him there was the possibility of a risk of explosion. When officers arrived, the resident informed them he had purchased a novelty land mine as a gag gift for a friend back in December 2019. It had been purchased online from Kommandostore.com, and had been sitting since that time in a box in his basement. On Saturday, February 15, the resident received an email from Kommandostore.com, stating the land mind could still have an active primer in it, and there could be a risk of an explosion. The email directed the resident to contact their local police department to have the land mine inspected. Bloomfield Township police called the Michigan State Bomb Squad, who took possession of the land mine for disposal. Township police would like to stress that, at no time, was the public in any danger. The complaint has been turned over to the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad for follow up investigation.
