Deadlines approaching for absentee ballots

The last day for voters to request an absentee ballot by mail for the August 4 primary election is fast approaching – it is Friday, July 31. Local Michigan clerks must receive your request by mail by Friday, July 31, in order to send you an absentee ballot for the Tuesday, August 4, primary election. However, voters wishing to cast their vote by absentee ballot have until Monday, August 3, at 5 p.m. to request an absentee ballot in person at their local clerk's office. All absentee voter ballots must be returned be returned to their municipal drop box no later than 8 p.m. on election night in order to be counted. In Birmingham, the clerk's office will be open curbside – by appointment – from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. to issue absentee ballots. On Monday, August 3, the clerk's office will be open curbside, by appointment, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to issue absentee ballots. In Bloomfield Township, in addition to the regular business hours on Mondays through Thursdays, the clerk's office will be open Friday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday, July 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, August 1, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A mask is required to enter the building. On election day, Tuesday, August 4, registered voters who did not submit an absentee ballot must vote at their precinct, which will all be open and available to the public. Bloomfield Hills residents can download an absentee ballot application from the city website, or from the city's clerk office no later than 5 p.m. Friday, July 31. Requests must be in writing and will be processed immediately.
