Pernoi approved to be renamed Casa Pernoi

Pernoi, briefly a high-end Asian-fusion restaurant at 310 E. Maple Road in Birmingham, received unanimous approval from the Birmingham City Commission on Monday, August 10, to change its name to Casa Pernoi, and to offer Italian cuisine. “It's a simple request,” said Birmingham Planning Director Jana Ecker. “There are no changes to ownership, plans, design or signage other than adding 'Casa' to Pernoi.” Pernoi was approved for a bistro license in July 2019, for the former Cafe Via location in the city's downtown. It is currently owned and operated by Chef Luciano DelSignore; he was initially joined by Chef Takashi Yagihashi, for what the two had described in their bistro application as “an upscale French, Italian and Japanese restaurant...The concept is extremely contemporary and the menu will rotate frequently.” Yagihashi left Pernoi last fall, and during the COVID-19 lockdown, DelSignore said he was returning to his Italian cooking roots, offering Italian trattoria specialties, which he had great success with. Casa Pernoi continues with those specialties.
