Driver hits, kills pedestrian on Maple

A Bloomfield Hills woman called 911 at approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, saying that she had hit a pedestrian on Maple west of Coolidge in Birmingham, and police later reported the man died of his injuries. Birmingham police dispatch report they received a 911 call from the driver, a 60-year-old female from Bloomfield Hills, who stated she had hit a person while driving westbound on Maple. The driver told officers she passed through the intersection of Maple and Coolidge on a green light when she struck the pedestrian. Officers located a 30-year-old male from Birmingham who was laying in the roadway who succumbed to his injuries. Birmingham police is a member of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT), and the team was called to the scene to conduct an investigation, which is ongoing at this time. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Birmingham Police Department at 248.530.1870.
