Thieves ransack home, steal jewelry

An evening out by Birmingham residents led them to discover their home had been broken into, ransacked and several pieces of jewelry stolen. The residents, who live in the 700 block of Bates Street, returned home around 11 p.m. Friday, September 18, to discover their home had been burgled and someone had ransacked multiple rooms. They informed Birmingham police several pieces of jewelry had been stolen. Officers determined a window that was pried open was likely how the suspects gained entry into the home. Birmingham police are investigating.
