Positive Covid case confirmed at high school

Officials at Bloomfield Hills High School were notified on Thursday, October 8, that a student had tested positive for COVID-19, and the school is undergoing disinfection while staying open. In an email communication from superintendent Pat Watson and Charlie Hollerith, Bloomfield Hills High School principal, to the Bloomfield Hills Schools community, Watson wrote that they were notified that of a positive coronavirus case at Bloomfield Hills High School, and the student was not in attendance. “The high school was deep cleaned as part of our normal weekly practice yesterday (Wednesday) and all areas have been thoroughly disinfected,” Watson wrote. Apparently the infected student is a volleyball player, as Watson said, “Out of an abundance of caution, all volleyball activities are suspended beginning today and until further notice.” However, school remains open for classes. Watson said regularly scheduled classes will continue, and unless a family does not receive a specific quarantine notice or phone call from the Oakland County Health Department case investigator, students should attend school as scheduled. “If your child is sick or has been exposed to a confirmed or probable case of COVID, please do not allow them to attend school activities, programs, or athletics… If you are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test, please continue to keep your child home,” Watson stated.
