$500 in booze stolen from Kroger

Shoplifters stole more than $500 in liquor in two separate incidents at the Birmingham Kroger store at Woodward and Maple, police said.

Birmingham police officers responded shortly after noon on Thursday, March 25, to Kroger, 700 E. Maple, for the report of a man who walked out of the store with stolen liquor. Police said the man took two unspecified bottles of liquor totaling $108. He then walked out of the store with the items, even as the security alarm sounded.

Police described the man as a black male wearing a red and black jacket, and a baseball hat. He was unable to be located.

Officers responded to Kroger a second time about 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, when an unknown woman left the store with a shopping cart full of liquor worth about $432. Police said the woman had a cart full of alcohol she hadn’t paid for and left the store through the south doors of the building.

The woman was described as 30 to 40 years old, wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black vest.

The incidents are under investigation.
