Birmingham business victim of phone scammer

The shift supervisor of a business at 30000 Woodward Avenue in Birmingham was tricked into handing money over to a scammer after being convinced there was an issue with the store’s credit card reader.

On Saturday, January 27, the supervisor reported that she was called by the scammer who explained the issue with the card readers. She was allegedly instructed to transfer money using MoneyGram, and after she did, the scammer hung up on her.

Birmingham police report an investigation is ongoing.
