Bracelet seller scammed out of $800 in exchange

A seller got a lot less than planned when instead of receiving the agreed upon $800 for their 14k gold bracelet they got $5 and an envelope full of napkins.

The victim – who sold the bracelet through Facebook Marketplace – met the buyer in the Costco parking lot at 2343 S. Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township on Friday, January 5. After giving the buyer the bracelet to take a closer look at, the seller was given the envelope, which ended up only containing a $5 bill and some napkins.

By the time the seller had opened the envelope to verify the money was inside, the buyer had already taken off with the bracelet.

The Bloomfield Township Police Investigations Unit is investigating the case and would like anyone with information to please call 248.433.7755.

The police department also encourages using the police department’s lobby for high value e-commerce transactions, and that they have an e-commerce safe exchange zone in their parking lot that is under video surveillance.
