Commission, planning to meet on master plan

By Kevin Elliott

Birmingham city commission and planning board members will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 18, for a joint meeting to review the second draft of the Birmingham Master Plan for 2040.

The 2040 plan lays out a roadmap for long-term development in the city, including future land use and zoning that determines density and character of each neighborhood and business district. The first draft of the plan was reviewed in 2021, with a second draft introduced in October. The planning board has held several public review sessions, with public comment welcomed. The planning board completed its review of the second draft on March 9.

City commissioners and planning board members will conduct a joint review of the draft at the April 18 meeting. A summary and full version of the plan, including land-use maps and supplemental information, can be found online at thebirminghamplan.com.
