Man arrested trying to cash fraudulent check

Birmingham police officers arrived at First Merchants Bank, 1712 W. Maple Road, on Thursday, September 8, after an employee noted several suspicious issues with a check an individual was trying to cash.

After arriving at the scene, officers met the suspect, who stated another individual he had met on the street offered him money to cash the check. The bank’s client, whose name was on the check, said she did not know the individual trying to cash the check and did not authorize him to cash the check.

The individual was arrested for uttering and publishing check, and the bank's client, a resident of Bloomfield Hills, was advised to contact the Bloomfield Hills Police Department to coordinate extra patrol at her residence as a safety precaution.
