Man ticketed for trying to dine and dash

Around 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, Birmingham police were called to a restaurant in the 100 block of Pierce Street regarding a man who had dined there, racked up a $162 bill and was trying to leave without paying.

According to police, the suspect, a 26-year-old Southfield resident, had just eaten at the restaurant, believed to be Townhouse Birmingham, and accrued a bill of $162. The man then attempted to leave the restaurant without paying but was stopped by restaurant staff.

The suspect agreed to being searched, and the restaurant's staff discovered he didn't have the money to pay for the meal he had just eaten. The suspect claimed he was meeting a friend at the restaurant and they were going to split the bill.

Birmingham police cited the man for defrauding a restaurant.
