Maple Road to close for summer road work
Maple Road between Inkster and Franklin roads in Bloomfield Township will close to through traffic from Thursday, April 9, through late September for road construction, the Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) announced.
Access to homes and business along this section of Maple Road will be maintained during the road work project. Maple Road will fully closed east of Norham Road for culvert removal and replacement.
The road reconstruction plan, a $4.55 million project, includes removal and replacement of asphalt; the addition of a left-turn lane from Inkster to Norham Road; extension of the township's safety path on the north side of Maple Road from Inkster Road to Westmoor Road, including ADA-compliant crosswalks and upgraded pedestrian-crosswalk signals; the replacement of a culvert under Maple east of Norham; drainage improvements, storm sewer installation and new curbs/gutters in some locations; and new traffic signs and pavement markings.
The detour for through traffic is Inkster Road to Walnut Lake Road to Franklin Road, back to Maple Road and vice versa.
The project is funded primarily through federal funding, with the remaining costs shared by Bloomfield Township, RCOC and Oakland County through the Tri-Party program.
