Tire slasher hits Birmingham woman's car

A pair of tires belonging to a Birmingham woman were damaged beyond repair sometime overnight on Sunday, February 14, during an apparent Valentine’s Day slashing in the 1000 block of Old Woodward.

The victim, a 31-year-old resident of the city, told police she noticed her tires were low while driving to work Monday morning. She discovered after having the car towed to a local dealership that two of the tires had been slashed.

Police said the victim suspects the vandalism may be linked to an ongoing domestic situation.

“She confirmed that the tires were intact the afternoon prior and that her vehicle was parked in the parking lot of her condominium overnight,” the Birmingham Police Department said in a statement. “She also mentioned having ongoing issues with her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend and that a similar incident occurred three years prior to his vehicle’s tires.”

Police said the dealership confirmed the tires were unable to be salvaged. The loss was estimated at $630.
