Trio caught paying with stolen credit cards

An attempted purchase at a Birmingham business located on the 600 block of North Old Woodward on Saturday, March 30, led to the arrest of an 18-year-old New Yorker after the store employee reported identity fraud.

According to a Birmingham police report, three men entered the business around 8 p.m. and tried to buy something, allegedly using fake credit card numbers to do so. The store employee said the cards were declined, sending the trio to their car where they sat parked in front of the store for some time.

When police showed up, they talked to the group and found out the 18-year-old had several credit cards and IDs that did not belong to him. Birmingham police reported they arrested the 18-year-old and charged him with identity theft, and said an investigation is ongoing.
