Woman loses funds in computer phone scam

A resident living at the 2000 block of E. Maple Road in Birmingham was the victim of a phone scam on Saturday, January 27, after hackers allegedly got into her computer.

According to the woman, she received a message on her computer saying she was hacked and telling her to call a phone number to fix the issue. The woman then reportedly spoke with several scammers claiming to be with Microsoft who convinced her to transfer money into accounts they owned.

Birmingham police say they are investigating the incident. Reports did not indicate how much the woman was scammed out of.
