Downtown Rochester to host trick-or-treat

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority (DDA) on Saturday, October 21, will host Trick-or-Treat Downtown, a costume parade, spaghetti dinner and Halloween edition of Movies in the Moonlight.

The event, which begins at 3:30 p.m.., encourages kids to dress up and trick-or-treat downtown businesses until 5 p.m.

More than 50 businesses will participate in the trick-or-treating event, and will be marked with window signage.

Following the trick-or-treating, kids can meet at 5:15 p..m. for a costume parade at the public parking lot at Water Street and University, where a police car and fire truck will lead the procession south along Water Street to end at the Rochester Fire Departement.

Dinner will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the fire station, which will also host an open house to benefit Rochester Area Youth Assistance. Craft activity for kids also will be available at the fire station.

Tickets are on sale at the door and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.

The Halloween edition of Moves in the Moonlight will feature The Lego Batman Movie, which will begin at dusk (about 6:30 p.m.) at the parking lot at the corner of E. Third and Water, one block east of Main Street. Movies in the Moonlight is BYOC (Bring Your Own Chairs). Food and drinks will be available for purchase and provided by The Meeting House; however, families are welcome to bring their own. Movies in the Moonlight is sponsored by Lincoln of Troy.

The event will be followed on Saturday, October 28 by the Farmer's Market Trick-or-Treat event, where kids are again encouraged to dress up and trick-or-treat from 10 a.m. to noon.
