Giving season for Community Foundation

The Community Foundation of Greater Rochester is reaching out to donors in the area as the non-profit organization prepares for a seasonal push in charitable giving through the end of the year.

"We have this unique and amazing job of partnering with the community to give donors, organizations and those looking to fund the community's future in one place to connect and work together," said Community Foundation of Greater Rochester ExecutiveDirector Johanna Allen. "During this season of giving, we want donors to know just what we do and how it impacts the community."

As such, Allen said hundreds of Rochester-area nonprofits will benefit from the support of the foundation, which has worked for more than three decades with donors. The Community Foundation is designed to be the community's fund for endowment and grant-making, managing more than 150 funds.

In addition to working with non-profit organizations, the Community Foundation awards about 75 to 100 college scholarships to students each year; provides assistance grants to Blessings in a Backpack, Sound the Alarm, ALSM Assault Survivor Kits, Cancer Dress, the A-OK Program and others.

The Community Foundation also works on special projects, such as grants to Rotary Gateway Park; the Veteran’s Memorial Pointe; the International Velodrome at Bloomer Park; Rochester Hills' Innovation Hills Park and the city of Rochester Sun Dial. Capital campaigns taken on by the Community Foundation include restoration and preservation of the Rochester Hills Museum Dairy, Calf and Equipment Barns; and working with The Women's Fund and Men's Fund, as well as the Youth Fund.
