Troy woman killed in Rochester Hills collision

December 8, 2017

An 85-year-old Troy woman died on Wednesday, December 6, from injuries she received in a two-vehicle collision on E. Auburn Road, near S. Rochester Road, in Rochester Hills, the sheriff's office said.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded about 2:53 p.m. to the report of a crash in the area that occurred when a vehicle the woman was a passenger in pulled out of a private driveway and was struck by a pickup truck.

The sheriff's office said the car, a 2002 Buick Regal, was being driven by an 86-year-old Troy man who was trying to get to an adjacent driveway on Auburn Road. The man crossed all lanes of traffic on Auburn Road when the Buick was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado heading west on Auburn Road.

After the collision, the Buick Regal was pushed into a 2014 Buick Enclave, which was stopped in a driveway waiting to enter E. Auburn Road.

The victim was in the front passenger seat. Paramedics and firefighters with the Rochester Hills Fire Department extricated the victim from the vehicle. She was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Troy where she died.

The 86-year-old driver was also taken to the hospital with injuries that were considered "serious," the sheriff's office said. He was listed in stable condition on Thursday, December 7.

The driver of the Silverado, a 56-year-old Rochester Hills man, and the driver of the Buick Enclave, a 47-year-old Rochester Hills man, were uninjured.

All occupants of all the vehicles were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol was not a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
