Medical condition likely cause of fatal crash
A fatal injury that claimed the life of an 88-year-old man on Saturday, December 30, is believed to have occurred after he suffered a medical condition that made him lose control of his vehicle on Dequindre Road in Rochester Hills.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded about 3:03 p.m. on Saturday to the report of a crash at Dequindre and Clovelly Avenue. The office said the victim, 88, of Palms, Michigan, was heading north on Dequindre in a 2014 Dodge Journey when he drove left of center, sideswiped a southbound vehicle, through a ditch and into some bushes in the 47000 block of Dequindre.
Investigators said the victim's wife was in the passenger seat and said he lost control after he began to suffer a medical condition.
The driver was transported by the Rochester Hills Fire Department to Troy Beaumont Hospital, where he died.
The occupants of the other vehicle, a 2009 Pontiac Vibe, weren't injured. The sheriff's office said the victim's wife wasn't injured. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash.
