Veterans tribute pavers available
People who would like to honor a veteran and contribute to the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township (VTOT) may do so with the purchase of two different types of inscribed brick pavers that will be installed at the memorial.
The memorial, which broke ground in August of 2017 at 5236 Adams Road, near Adams and Silver Bell roads, serves as a tribute to the United States Armed Forces and Veterans. The tribute will include a semi-circular granite wall standing about 42-inches tall that will encompass six 14-foot tall glass panels. Each of the panels represents a branch of the armed forces and feature etchings and lightings to reflect designs onto the ground inside the wall. A flagpole will be placed at the center of the memorial, with engraved, brick pavers placed throughout the memorial.
The clay paving stones will be laser engraved and personalized with an inscribed name. The pavers, which will include 4 inch x 8 inch and 8 inch x 8 inch sizes, may honor a veteran, family member, organization, or express any other patriotic thought. The pavers, which are available for a $150 or $300 donation, may be ordered with or without a symbol, such as a military crest or US flag.
Donations will be used to fund the tribute, which is being constructed in three phases, said retired US Army Colonel Timothy Reese, president of the Veterans Tribute of Oakland Township, an all-volunteer board consisting of veterans, local businesses and civic leaders.
The tribute is set to be dedicated this summer, with pavers to be installed prior to the dedication ceremony. The deadline for paver orders is March 15.
