Founder's Day Celebration Sunday, March 11

The Rochester Historical Commission on Sunday, March 11, will host a Founder's Day celebration at the Calf Barn at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm.

The event, which is scheduled for 2 p.m., commemorates the arrival of James Graham and his sons on March 17, 1817, to the area now known as Rochester, Michigan. Graham and his sons were pioneer settlers who established Rochester as the first settlement in Oakland County. In 1823, the Lemuel Taylor clan came from New York and founded Stoney Creek Village. Both settlements are in the greater Rochester area.

The event will include entertainment by nationally recognized ragtime piano player Bob Milne, who grew up in the greater Rochester area and attended Rochester schools. The event also includes honor presentations for local Hall of Fame inductees Dr. Max Mallon, Eva Woodward Parker and Roy Rewold.
