Krazy Greek revamps as dessert destination

The Krazy Greek restaurant in downtown Rochester will reopen as a new dessert destination with limited outdoor seating this spring season, following final approvals on Monday, March 5, by the city's planning commission.

Dino Prapas, who co-owns the restaurant with his parents, George and Barbara, said during the meeting that the family opened the Krazy Greek, 111 E. University Drive, 43 years ago, but are changing the concept to a new restaurant that will be named Cookie Dough.

"We are going into edible cookie dough. We will have 16 flavors of edible cookie dough, and 16 flavors of ice cream, so we will be making some creative desserts," Prapas said. "It's different. It's trendy. Hopefully everyone will come in and try it to check it out."

Prapas made the comments at the meeting while requesting approval of an outdoor dining area at the restaurant that will open this April, weather permitting. The outdoor seating will consist of two picnic tables and seat up to a dozen people. The planning commission approved the outdoor dining space, which will be permitted to operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., April through October.

Prapas in February received final approval for an amended site plan for the main facade of the building. The building, which is a 1,500 square foot, single-story space with a flat roof, is in the process of being renovated. The roof will be reconstructed with a gable to give it the illusion of a second story while providing a cathedral ceiling for the existing dining room. Plans also include a new storefront window along University, a faux chimney on the west side of the building, new lighting, paint and fixtures.

The new cookie dough concept restaurant is expected to be the first of its kind in Oakland County.
