Woman arrested for Walmart shoplifting

A 26-year-old Auburn Hills woman was arrested on Saturday, March 10, in connection with retail fraud after being caught shoplifting items from a Rochester Hills Walmart store, authorities said.

An Oakland County sheriff's deputy responded about 5:07 p.m. to the report of a retail fraud at the store, 2500 S. Adams. Loss prevention staff at the store told the deputy that a couple, who was later identified by their passports issued through India, were observed in the plumbing aisle of the store. The employee said the woman was acting nervous, which raised suspicions and caught his attention.

The loss prevention employee told the deputy he followed the couple to the self-checkout and witnessed the woman put several items into grocery bags without scanning them. They then tried to exit the store, at which point they were confronted by the employee.

The woman told the employee she made a mistake and would be willing to pay for the items, which were valued at $63.66. She was arrested and transported to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Rochester Hills substation where she was fingerprinted, cited for retail fraud and released.
