The Rochester Community School District is seeking to fill a vacancy on its board of education following the resignation of trustee John (Pat) Piskulich.
Under the state's revised school code and election law, an eligible candidate may be appointed to the position, with the term starting immediately after taking the oath of office and running through December 31, 2018.
For consideration as a candidate, an applicant may send an application and resume to the board president by noon on Friday, April 13.
For consideration as a candidate, the application and resume may be emailed to to Dr. Sandra Fiaschetti at firstname.lastname@example.org with a copy (cc) to Maureen Nakonek, eexecutive assistant to the superintendent and board of education at email@example.com.
Applications may also be dropped off at the Rochester Community School District Administration Building, 501 W. University Drive, Rochester, MI 48073. All packets should be addressed: "To the Attention of Dr. Sandra Fiaschetti, President, Board of Education or the Rochester Community School District."
The general duties and responsibilities of a board member include coordinating initiatives with the superintendent of schools; establishing policy for the district; adopting the budget and aligning funding priorities with district goals; determining school facility needs; and responding to community ideas.
Commitments include attending and preparing for the board of education meetings and closed sessions; participating in committee assignments which consist of approximately two meetings per month; participating in school assignments which average about six meetings per year; participating in liaison assignments, which average about one per month; and joining in ceremonial duties, to include commencements and honors events.
Following the deadline for application, the board will hold an open house on April 24 to meet and interview candidates.
