Man caught shoplifting from grocer

A 64-year-old Pontiac man was arrested on Thursday, March 22, in connection with shoplifting from a Rochester Hills Walmart store, authorities said.

Oakland County sheriff's deputies were called about 2:39 p.m. to Walmart, 2500 S. Adams, to respond to a shoplifter in custody. One of the store's loss prevention officers told the deputy the man selected two cans of Bumble Bee canned oysters and some Axe body wash and put them into his cart. He then went to a closed self-checkout register, placed the items in a bag and attempted to leave without paying, according to authorities.

The man was stopped by loss prevention staff and taken into custody until the deputy arrived. He was arrested and processed for retail fraud.

The items, which totaled about $25.40, were recovered without incident.
