Construction starting along Walton Boulevard
Construction along Walton Boulevard, between Squirrel and Adams roads, began on Monday, May 14, and will cause some traffic delays throughout the month, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) said.
Work was scheduled to begin May 14 on the median, leading the inside (left) lane closed in both directions. In late May, the contractor, Z Contractors of Shelby Township, will shift two-way traffic to the north half of the boulevard so removal of culverts can begin on the south half. Residential and business access will be maintained at all times.
The $6.9-million project involves replacing three culverts and resurfacing the road between Squirrel and Adams roads in Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills. Three metal culverts will be replaced with concrete box culverts. Concrete curb and gutters will be repaired; Walton between Squirrel and Adams roads will be resurfaced, including the Walton and Squirrel Road intersection.
Construction is expected to conclude in the late fall, though resurfacing could take place in spring of 2019.
The project is mostly funded by the RCOC, with additional funding from the city of Auburn Hills.
